Melatonin is a serotonin derivative and a naturally occurring hormone that affects circadian rhythm (sleep/wake cycles). It also attenuates a healthy immune response. This hormone is released by the pineal gland in the brain and signals the adrenal glands to rest ~ and Adrenal function is crucial during times of stress or illness!
Melatonin levels may decline due to aging. However, poor sleep habits & exposure to unnatural photons (LED light particles from tech sources) also inhibit melatonin production. This means computers, T.V., cell phones, etc. and staying up “past bedtime ” adversely affect aging, immunity and melatonin production.
There is a very tiny hole (socket) between the eyes, where sunlight (healthy photons) penetrate the skin, enter the brain, and reach the pineal gland. These particles stop entering at sunset, thus melatonin is released and sleep ensues. Or was that back in the old days when we weren’t confined to our four walls? Nowadays, particles from LED light (magnetic fake photons) are drawn to this socket, gradually clogging it. This leads to difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep and sometimes insomnia.
There is a way to clear this pathway/socket manually that may easily be done at home. Saturate a cotton ball in very warm salt water; wring; press between eyes 5min. Or spray damp cotton 2x with “Inner Qi Spray” & press between eyes 1min. Then press on apex of head (at hair whorl) 2min; move down from there at 1/2″ increments to base of skull. The Inner Qi will remove lymph toxins that interfere with sleep & optic nerve function (the cause of “LED light / video game addiction” and “teenage trance.”) Also press sprayed cotton on left side of upper chest at acupressure point Ki-25 for 2min. at bedtime to reduce thoracic lymph that also causes insomnia. (If bladder wakes you, review our website under Bladder Qi for acupressure points and viable solutions:)
Supplementing melatonin is another option, but will not clear pineal socket or thoracic lymph. Speak to your doctor if you want to start taking melatonin, especially if you have a compromised immune system. Recommendations might be 3mg lozenge before bed during illness; 1mg nightly as preemptive. During illness, spray Inner Qi on cotton; gently press Acu. Points on Spleen meridian 9 & 10 for each 2min. Detox upper spleen area and meridian as well. Use warm water with apple cider vinegar if you don’t have Inner Qi Spray.
If melatonin leaves you feeling groggy, eat 5 cherries (frozen, fresh or from a jar) before bed instead of pill or lozenge, for a more natural approach.
If you feel you didn’t sleep well or forgot to take your melatonin, eat 5-6 cherries before 10:00am. This will counteract the fatigue from low melatonin secretion during the night. Try including a few capers (from a jar) in the morning to directly support adrenal energy. You can also spray cotton with Inner Qi and press Acu. Point ST-36 for 1min. any time of day to optimize energy!
